Interesting morning for car spotting. Coming up in the other lane i see a tan JKU with a mild teraflex lift, I know it was a teraflex lift because it had one of those annoying "T E R A F L E X" stickers on the window. Nothing strange right? I always look over to see what kind of person is driving a car like that and I was shocked to see a young lady drinking coffee. okay that wasn't the shock, the shock was that I could have reached out my window and passed her some grey poupon. This JKU was RHD! I don't even know how you get a gas powered RHD JKU...weird. Then this morning I saw the new 911 GT3, looks nice

Did they make the JKU in a postal delivery version?

That was my first though, but no, I think it was just the standard length.

After working the Googles I have discovered that a JKU is likely a Wrangler Unlimited. According to Wikipedia this was available with RHD for rural mail carriers. Jeep has pretty much always offered RHD on their models for this particular demographic.
The Wrangler X is available with factory installed right-hand drive , targeted at U.S. Mail carriers.

Ah, but not the unlimited model, and it was also a rubicon.

For the 2007 and 2008 model years, the right-hand drive Jeep was the short-wheelbase Wrangler. For the 2009 model year, the right-hand drive Wrangler will be replaced by the right-hand drive Wrangler Unlimited.
Since my info is from Wikipedia it wouldn't surprise me if RHD was available on all trim levels. It also wouldn't be that hard to turn a RHD base model into a "Rubicon" if you're the kind of person who is going to lift it anyway. The Rubicon is mostly just locking axles, right?

Interesting, I guess that explains it. The Rubicon is mechanically quite different from the rest (different axles, transfer case, sway bar disconnects, etc) but it could have just been a badge and sticker jobber. Still, begs the question: why?

Maybe high miles RHD = cheaper than a beat to shit off roader even after putting a lift and stuff on it.
